What Happened at WWDC21?

If you didn't have time to watch the whole WWDC keynote event, here's a recap.

iOS

First, they talked about the iPhone and iOS. They first brought Spatial Audio to FaceTime. They mentioned how you can now share media in FaceTime, real-time. There are now Shared With You sections on apps, for when someone sends you a link to that app. Safari gets a huge overhaul on the bottom bar, and receives extensions. The customization for Safari from Big Sur is now on all Apple Devices. You can also now set focuses on certain apps and notifications. This is almost like Do Not Disturb but it allows certain apps. The Photos app gets an overhaul in the Memories section. Apple Wallet receives Keys for many different locks. The Maps app get way more detailed and a new design and a overview like Google Earth.

iPadOS

With iPadOS, you can now view widgets on the home screen, and the app library which came to iPhone last year. Since we got app library, we can now hide apps. You get more multitasking options, and can now take notes from ANY screen using Scribble or just typing. You can now build apps with Swift on iPad with Swift Playgrounds.

Privacy

Apple has added new privacy features such as hiding IPs, hiding your location, adding a new page in settings showing all app privacy info, and allowing you to receive emails under a fake email address that forwards to your real one.

iCloud

You can now add family and friends to a list allowing them to receive recovery codes if you only have one device. Another addition is allowing the same or different people get your information and access to your iCloud account after you die.

WatchOS

In WatchOS, there is now one app for Breath and a new feature called Reflect. It is a simple question that can lead to "overall psychological wellbeing". Raspatory Rate is added to the Health App. The new Portrait watch face is like the photos watch face, but with multiple layers of the item/face selected, the blurred background, and the time. The photos app now has more sections like the iPhone photos app. There is a new share icon in messages. In the keyboard, you can now scribble, dictate, and add emojis at the same time, in the same view. #Images comes to Apple Watch for iMessage.

MacOS

MacOS Monterey can now receive AirPlay for the speaker or the screen. You can now switch your cursor over from Mac to iPad seamlessly. The Mac gets the Shortcuts app. The MacOS Safari app gets a new clean, adaptive view that's completely modern. You can now use Tab Groups to keep your tabs organized on all your devices.
